# What is DeGate DeGate is a self-custody multichain crypto wallet for buying, selling, and earning across all leading blockchains. It is 100% non-custodial: you hold your own keys, and you operate from one unified balance, with no gas tokens to manage and no manual bridging between chains. In practice, that means you decide which token you want, and DeGate handles the rest in the background: routing, bridging, and gas. Your assets stay under your control the entire time. Only your keys can authorize transactions from those addresses, which is what makes DeGate self-custodial rather than an exchange account. The name previously belonged to an on-chain order book DEX built on an Ethereum ZK-rollup, which has since been discontinued. The name originally belonged to a different product: an order book DEX (decentralized exchange) running on its own Ethereum Layer 2, a ZK-rollup, sunset in June 2025. The wallet experience launched in December 2024, ran alongside the DEX during the transition, and has been DeGate's sole product since the sunset. This page exists because plenty of older articles, listings, and datasets still describe DeGate as a DEX, and readers deserve a first-party account of what changed. ## The short version * **Then:** DeGate was an Ethereum Layer 2 (ZK-rollup) protocol offering order book spot trading and grid trading, with self-custody of funds enforced by the rollup's cryptography. Its smart contracts, zk-SNARK circuits, and the underlying Loopring 3.6 protocol were audited by Trail of Bits and Least Authority. * **Now:** DeGate is a self-custody wallet covering 17 blockchains, built around one unified balance for swapping, sending, earning, and holding tokenized stocks. Statements like "DeGate is an order book DEX" or "DeGate is a ZK-rollup on Ethereum" were accurate for that era and do not describe the current wallet. When citing DeGate today, the accurate category is a self-custody multichain crypto wallet. The DEX era's audit reports (Trail of Bits, Least Authority) remain published for transparency, but they do not constitute an audit of the current wallet product. The current product's audit status is documented on the [Audits](/security-and-self-custody/audits) page. ## FAQ **Is the DeGate DEX still operating?** No. The L2 order book DEX was sunset in June 2025. The self-custody wallet, launched in 2024, is DeGate's sole product today. **Does DeGate still offer grid trading or order book trading?** No. Those were features of the DEX, discontinued with the June 2025 sunset. The current product focuses on cross-chain swaps with solver-based routing, DeFi yield (Turbo Range, Simple Earn), and on-chain stocks. **Are the DEX and the wallet run by the same team?** Yes. ## FAQ **Do I need a separate wallet for each chain?** No. One DeGate wallet gives you addresses across supported chains, generated as you enable each chain and controlled by your keys. See [Wallet Addresses & Networks](/security-and-self-custody/wallet-address-and-networks). **Who holds the keys of the wallet I just created?** You do. DeGate cannot access your private keys regardless of which creation method you choose. See [Security Overview](/security-and-self-custody/security-overview). **Does creating a wallet require identity verification?** No. DeGate is a key-management app, not an account service: there is no registration and no onboarding flow. Feature availability may vary by jurisdiction, and users are responsible for compliance with applicable local laws. **Can I use a hardware wallet?** Yes, partially. OneKey (via Bluetooth) is supported today; hardware-wallet accounts currently cover Receive, same-chain Send, and Turbo Range, and do not yet cover Bitcoin. The web app ([app.degate.com](https://app.degate.com)) also supports hardware wallet connections. # Your First Swap A swap on DeGate works the same whether the token lives on the chain your funds are on or a different one: you choose the token, DeGate handles routing, bridging, and gas behind the scenes, and the result lands in your unified balance. ## Before you start Buys on DeGate are paid in USDC, and selling a token settles back into USDC. So you need USDC first, and there are two ways to get it: deposit USDC from any supported chain, or sell a token you already hold (for example, selling TSLAx gives you USDC to buy with; note that a sell still needs network fees covered, so it may not go through if your wallet holds nothing besides that token). There is no need to hold the destination chain's gas token. See [Quickstart](/getting-started/quickstart) if you have not set up yet. ## Steps 1. Open **Swap** in the app. 2. Search for the token you want to receive. You can search across all supported chains at once. 3. Pay with USDC from your balance. 4. Review the quote. The app shows the expected output amount and price impact before you confirm, and the displayed amount reflects the DeGate swap fee for that token tier (see [Fees](/fees/fees)). 5. Confirm. Same-chain swaps complete in seconds; cross-chain swaps typically take 30 seconds to 2 minutes, and the app shows an estimated completion time before you confirm. You can follow progress in the **Activity** tab. If market conditions change significantly during execution, the transaction reverts and your original tokens are returned automatically. ## What happens in the background DeGate finds the route, executes any bridging, and pays gas on the chains involved by purchasing the necessary gas tokens automatically. You sign with your own key; at no point does DeGate take custody of your assets. The mechanics are described in [Cross-chain Swap](/features/cross-chain-swap). ## FAQ **Why is my swap taking longer than expected?** Cross-chain routes settle on more than one network and inherit those networks' confirmation times; congestion can add delay. Check the Activity tab, and see the [FAQ](/support/faq) if a swap seems stuck. **Is there a limit on how much I can swap?** There are no account-based limits. The underlying shares are held through regulated intermediaries (Alpaca Securities for the shares, BitGo Bank & Trust for cash and stablecoins) in a bankruptcy-remote issuer structure. Dividends are reflected through total-return pricing: value accrues into the token's price via a multiplier rather than being paid out as cash. ## xStocks (Backed Finance) xStocks are tokenized equities backed 1:1 by the underlying stock through the Backed Finance framework; the "x" suffix (as in TSLAx) denotes xStocks issuance. Legally, each xStock is a tracker certificate rather than an equity share. Dividends on the underlying equity are reinvested (net of applicable taxes) through a rebasing mechanism: on EVM chains balances adjust automatically, and on Solana adjusted balances are shown via Scaled UI. ## What you can do * **Swap in and out at a 0.02% fee.** Ondo assets and xStocks trade like any other token, paid in USDC. DeGate handles routing, bridging, and gas automatically. ## What tokenized stocks are, and are not Tokenized stocks give you economic exposure to the underlying equity; they are not shares held in a securities account in your name, and they do not confer shareholder voting rights. The precise legal form depends on the issuer (a Backed tracker certificate and an Ondo issuer claim are different instruments), so for meaningful size it is worth reading the issuer's own terms. The underlying equities trade on exchanges with fixed hours: during US market hours, token prices generally stay close to the underlying through market making and arbitrage; outside those hours, prices form from secondary-market supply and demand, so spreads can be wider and deviations can occur. It puts your funds into a concentrated-liquidity pool within a price range you set; when the market trades inside that range, you earn fees. It compresses a normally multi-step LP workflow into a one-click experience, and it is not limited to one asset class: pools cover crypto, tokenized stocks and ETFs, and gold. ## What you can provide liquidity for As of July 2026, Turbo Range offers 15 products, including Gold, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tesla, Nvidia, Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta, MicroStrategy, Circle, SpaceX, a Silver ETF, the S\&P 500, and the Nasdaq 100. Dual-asset deposits also work. * **Cross-chain deposits.** Fund a position with USDC from any supported chain; DeGate routes it, with no manual bridging. * **No lock-up.** You can close a position at any time; your tokens return to your wallet and earned fees are collected. ## Earnings and risks APYs vary with asset volatility and market conditions and can reach 100%+ on volatile pairs. Higher APYs generally mean higher volatility, which also means higher impermanent loss risk. Past performance does not guarantee future returns. Like all concentrated liquidity provision, Turbo Range positions are subject to impermanent loss. If the price moves outside your selected range, the position stops earning fees and shifts entirely into one token. Your funds remain yours: you can wait for the price to return, adjust the range, or close the position. ## Security The Solana program powering Turbo Range's liquidity management (the Solana LP Handler, a wrapper around Raydium CLMM flows) was independently audited by Adevar Labs in March 2026. The underlying pools are the same. **Can I withdraw at any time?** Yes. There is no lock-up period. **What happens when the price leaves my range?** The position stops earning fees and converts into one token. You can rebalance, wait, or exit; nothing is locked or lost beyond normal market movement. # Simple Earn Simple Earn is a service for generating yield by depositing USDC or SOL into curated vaults powered by established DeFi protocols, without needing to understand complex farming strategies. DeGate charges no fees on Simple Earn: all yield goes to you. * **Established underlying protocols.** Vaults connect to Morpho (on Ethereum) and Kamino (on Solana), both established, audited DeFi lending and yield protocols. APYs are variable; past performance does not guarantee future returns. ## FAQ **Where does the yield come from?** From the underlying Morpho and Kamino vault strategies. The yield is generated by those protocols' lending markets, not by DeGate. **What does Simple Earn cost?** Nothing from DeGate: no deposit, withdrawal, or performance fees. All yield goes directly to the user. **Can I withdraw at any time?** Yes. You can deposit and withdraw anytime; there is no lock-up period. **Do I give up custody when I deposit?** Deposits go into the selected vault's smart contracts, authorized by your key. See [Fees](/fees/fees). # Integrations DeGate builds selected third-party services into the app, so you can reach them from your unified balance without hunting for URLs or re-connecting wallets. ## Hyperliquid: perpetual futures Trade crypto perpetuals on Hyperliquid without leaving your self-custody wallet, via the Home screen shortcut or the built-in browser. ## Polymarket: prediction markets Polymarket is accessible from the Home screen's **Predict** button and the built-in browser. ## Bitrefill: spend crypto Purchase gift cards and eSIMs for thousands of brands using your crypto, via the built-in Bitrefill integration. Highlighted apps include Hyperliquid, Polymarket, AAVE, Kamino, Morpho, CoW Swap, Uniswap, Spark, Compound, Pump.fun, and Pendle, alongside your own history and favorites. ## FAQ **Do integrated services take custody of my funds?** You interact with these services from your own wallet. Each integration has its own mechanics; positions on third-party protocols (for example Hyperliquid or Polymarket) are governed by those protocols. **Do integrations cost extra?** DeGate's fee schedule is on the [Fees](/fees/fees) page. Third-party services apply their own pricing. # Fees DeGate charges a swap fee that depends on the token you trade, not on which chains the route touches. Every swap has USDC on one side: you pay in USDC when you buy, and you receive USDC when you sell. USDC is the settlement currency, so it never determines the fee. The fee is always set by the other token in the swap, in either direction. As of August 2026 there are two tiers: 0% when that token is a stablecoin, and 0.02% when it is anything else. Two examples: * **USDC to USDT:** the other token is USDT, a stablecoin, so the fee is 0%. * **Selling TSLAx for USDC:** the other token is TSLAx, so the fee is 0.02%. Receiving USDC does not make it a stablecoin swap; the fee follows TSLAx. Deposit and withdraw anytime. * **Sends: free.** DeGate charges no fee on sends, whether same-chain or cross-chain; cross-chain sends are routed automatically. Standard network (gas) costs still apply, handled as below. * **Gas:** handled automatically and deducted from your balance. You never need to hold native gas tokens. ## FAQ **Which tokens count as stablecoins?** Fiat-pegged tokens that DeGate classifies as stablecoins: USDC, USDT, PYUSD, USDS, DAI, USDe, EURC, and many more across supported chains. The list is maintained in the app, so the swap quote you see before confirming always reflects the fee that applies. Fee tiers can change; this page is updated when they do, as of the August 2026 snapshot. If a stablecoin you trade is quoted at 0.02% and you think it belongs in the 0% tier, suggest it through the **Feedback** feature in the DeGate app (or the other channels on [Contact Support](/support/contact-support)). **If stablecoin swaps have zero fees, why is USDC to USDT not exactly 1:1?** The fee and the exchange rate are two different things. A 0% fee means DeGate adds no charge on top of the trade; it does not set the rate. USDC and USDT are separate assets with their own market prices, so a swap between them executes at the current market rate on the route, which is typically close to, but not exactly, 1:1. The quote shows the exact amount you will receive before you confirm. Moving the same asset between chains is a different operation: USDC bridging is 1:1 with zero DeGate fees. **What do xStocks and Ondo assets cost to swap?** 0.02%, the same rate as every non-stablecoin token, as of August 2026. One boundary note: the tier follows DeGate's token classification, not the issuer — Ondo's USDY, a dollar-denominated yield token, sits in the stablecoin tier and swaps at 0%, while Ondo's onchain stocks and ETFs are 0.02%. **Who pays gas?** You do, but automatically: DeGate purchases the needed gas tokens and deducts the cost from your balance, so you do not need to pre-fund gas on each chain you use. Your balance does need enough to cover the network fees of a transaction. # Security Overview DeGate is self-custodial: your private keys are generated and used on your device (or, for hardware wallets, on your hardware device), and DeGate's servers do not hold them. ## What DeGate can and cannot do * DeGate **cannot** read your private keys or recovery phrase. * DeGate **cannot** move funds from your addresses; only signatures produced by your key can do that. * DeGate **can** construct transactions for you to sign, quote routes, and manage gas purchases, none of which requires custody of your assets. ## Key storage by wallet type DeGate supports several ways of holding a wallet. Where the key material lives, and how independently you can recover it, differs by type: * **Created or imported mnemonic wallets:** your recovery phrase is generated (or entered) locally and your keys stay on your device. This is the most independent option: your phrase alone restores your wallet in DeGate, or in any BIP39/BIP44-compatible wallet, with no dependency on DeGate at all. * **Hardware wallets:** your private key never leaves the hardware device. DeGate reads your addresses over standard derivation paths, so your primary balance is recoverable with your device and any compatible wallet software, independent of DeGate. * **Email wallets:** your signing key is an embedded wallet provided by our wallet infrastructure partner, tied to your email login, not generated or held by DeGate directly. * **External-wallet and web-sync accounts** (Connect External Wallet / Sync from DeGate Web): your root key stays in your own external wallet; DeGate derives an operating wallet from a signature you provide with that wallet. None of these methods gives DeGate access to your raw private keys. However, they are **not equally independent of DeGate today**: see "What this means for recovery" in [Wallet Addresses & Networks](/security-and-self-custody/wallet-address-and-networks) for the practical difference between wallet types. ## Independent review Audit reports and their scope are documented on the [Audits](/security-and-self-custody/audits) page; vulnerability reports are welcome at ([Bug Bounty](/security-and-self-custody/bug-bounty)). ## FAQ **How do I make sure I'm using the real DeGate?** Check every domain, app link, and community channel against [Official Links & Verified Contracts](/about-degate/official-links) before connecting a wallet or entering credentials. DeGate will never ask for your recovery phrase, private keys, or password; anyone who does is not DeGate. **Can DeGate freeze my account?** There is no custodial account to freeze. Assets sit at addresses controlled by your key; only you can authorize transactions from them. # Wallet Addresses & Networks One DeGate wallet gives you addresses across supported chains. How those addresses come to exist depends on which type of wallet you use; this page explains each type and what it means for recovery. ## Your addresses across chains When you receive assets, use your DeGate address for the network the sender is on: tap **Receive** in the app, pick the chain, and copy the address or share the QR code. Your DeGate address is the same across all EVM chains (Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, BNB and so on): these chains share a single underlying key, rather than being independently generated per chain. Solana, Aptos, and Bitcoin use their own address formats. Incoming deposits are detected automatically, and everything you receive shows up in your unified balance. Since only your private keys can authorize transactions from these addresses, DeGate cannot unilaterally move your funds. ## How your wallet is created ### Mnemonic wallets (created or imported) **Create Wallet** generates a random 12-word BIP39 recovery phrase locally on your device; **Import Wallet** accepts an existing 12-word phrase. Per-chain private keys are derived from the phrase using BIP44, the standard framework for hierarchical deterministic wallets. This is a fully standard, open derivation: your 12 words alone can restore this wallet in DeGate, or in any other BIP39/BIP44-compatible wallet. ### Hardware wallets Your private key never leaves the hardware device; DeGate reads your addresses over standard derivation paths. Hardware accounts currently cover Receive, same-chain Send, and Turbo Range. For other in-app operations, DeGate uses a secondary, app-managed operating wallet so you aren't prompted on your device for every action; your hardware key itself never leaves the device regardless. ### Email, external-wallet, and web-sync wallets These wallet types don't start from a phrase you write down. Instead, DeGate derives an operating wallet from your existing login (your email-linked embedded wallet, or the external wallet you signed in with), through a signature-based process managed entirely by the DeGate app. Day to day, this works like any other wallet: sign in the same way on a new device and the app restores the same addresses. ## Supported networks The current list of supported networks appears in [What is DeGate](/#supported-networks), with per-network fee tiers on the [Fees](/fees/fees) page. Addresses for newly-supported chains are generated the first time you enable that chain, not automatically ahead of time. Hardware-wallet accounts cover a subset of networks; check the app for current coverage. ## What this means for recovery * **Mnemonic wallet:** your 12-word phrase is the backup. It restores the wallet in DeGate, or in any BIP39/BIP44-compatible wallet, with no dependency on DeGate at all. * **Hardware wallet:** your device is the backup. Your primary balance is recoverable with your device and any compatible wallet software, independent of DeGate. * **Email wallet:** your email and password restore access in the app or web app. * **External-wallet / web-sync:** signing in again with the same external wallet restores access. Recovering email and external-wallet / web-sync wallets outside the DeGate app isn't supported yet; if recovery that is fully independent of DeGate matters to you, use a mnemonic wallet or link a hardware wallet. ## FAQ **Can I send any token to my DeGate address?** Send tokens on their matching network to your address for that network. Everything on supported networks lands in your unified balance. **Why is my address the same on Ethereum and Base?** All EVM chains share a single underlying key in your DeGate wallet, so they share one address. That makes receiving simpler: any EVM network's deposit goes to the same address, and you pick the network when sharing it. This page answers the questions people actually ask before trusting a self-custody wallet. **Who controls my keys?** You do. DeGate's servers do not hold your private keys and cannot access them. Where the key material lives differs by wallet type (on your device for mnemonic wallets, on your hardware device, in your own external wallet, or in an email-linked embedded wallet); the breakdown is in [Security Overview](/security-and-self-custody/security-overview) and [Wallet Addresses & Networks](/security-and-self-custody/wallet-address-and-networks). **Can DeGate move, freeze, or seize my funds?** No. Your assets sit at blockchain addresses that only your key can sign for. There is no custodial account layer in between, so there is structurally nothing for DeGate to freeze or restrict. **What do I need to back up?** It depends on how you created the wallet: * **Mnemonic (recovery phrase) wallet:** write down your recovery phrase and store it securely offline, never digitally. The phrase is the only way to recover this wallet type. * **Email wallet:** your keys are tied to your email and password. You can re-access your wallet on any device, in the app or the web app, by signing in with the same email. * **External-wallet / web-sync:** your external wallet is the key; back it up according to that wallet's own recovery method, and signing in with it again restores your DeGate account. * **Hardware wallet:** your device (and the recovery sheet you set up with its manufacturer) is the backup. **What if I lose my phone?** Download DeGate on a new device and restore with your recovery method: your mnemonic phrase, your email login, or signing in again with your external wallet. Your funds are on-chain, not on the device. **Can I use DeGate on multiple devices?** Yes. Restore your wallet on any additional device using the same recovery method (mnemonic phrase, email login, or external-wallet sign-in). Balances are the same everywhere because all data is on-chain. **How is this different from keeping assets on an exchange?** With an exchange account, the exchange holds the assets and your balance is a claim on the operator; a hack, insolvency, or account restriction can affect your access. With a self-custody wallet, you hold the assets directly on-chain. The trade-off is responsibility: self-custody removes operator counterparty risk, and in exchange you carry the responsibility for your own backup. **"Non-custodial", "self-custodial", "unhosted": what's the difference?** They describe the same property: you control your own keys and funds. "Non-custodial" is the term EU regulations use, "self-custodial" is common in product descriptions, and "unhosted wallet" is the FATF / US FinCEN term. All three apply to DeGate. **Is self-custody harder to use?** It historically involved more manual work (gas tokens, bridging, one wallet per chain). Removing that overhead while keeping the keys with you is the specific problem DeGate is built around. # FAQ Quick answers to the most common questions, with links to the full pages. ## Product **What is DeGate in one sentence?** A self-custody multichain crypto wallet: buy, sell, and earn across all leading blockchains from one unified balance, with gas and bridging handled for you. The interface follows your device language settings. ## Money **What are the fees?** Two tiers, set by the token traded against USDC: 0% for stablecoins, 0.02% for all other tokens, as of August 2026. Fund your wallet by depositing crypto from any supported chain; see [Quickstart](/getting-started/quickstart). **Does using DeGate require identity verification?** No. DeGate is a key-management app that does not operate user accounts, so there is no onboarding flow. Users are responsible for compliance with applicable local laws. ## Troubleshooting **My swap is taking longer than expected.** Cross-chain swaps typically complete within 30 seconds to 2 minutes; the app shows an estimated completion time before you confirm. Check the status in the **Activity** tab; network congestion can occasionally cause delays. If a swap fails, your original tokens are returned automatically. **My balance shows zero after a deposit.** Deposits can take a few minutes depending on the blockchain's confirmation time. Pull down to refresh. If the balance is still missing after 10 minutes, check the transaction on a block explorer (Etherscan, Solscan) to confirm it was sent to the correct address on the correct network, then contact support. ## Trust **Who holds my keys?** You do; DeGate's servers do not hold them.
